Walsall students receive A Level results and look ahead to next steps

Young people across Walsall are receiving their A Level and post-16 results today, with students now considering their next steps in education, training and employment.
Provisional results show that 23.6% of Walsall’s young people achieved A-A* in their A-Level and A-Level equivalent qualifications.
Overall, 97% of A Level and equivalent qualifications achieved in Walsall were deemed a pass, achieving grades between A* and E. This represents a 3.3 percentage point increase on the 2025 pass rate.
Students from Joseph Leckie Academy in Walsall were among those receiving their results and reflecting on their results and plans for the future, with one student commenting, “I really didn’t expect to get what I actually got, so I’m really happy. I’ll be starting Law at Birmingham University, so I’m really happy about that.”
Another student added, “I can’t lie, I’m so happy that I got all my grades. I got into University, so that’s the best thing. I’m a first-generation Uni student as well, so it’s so exciting; it’s going to be amazing.
“I’m doing Architecture. I got an unconditional offer, so I’m going straight to University. I’m starting shopping now for Uni, I’m so excited.”
“ To get to the stage of receiving their Year 13 results and going through a complete A Level series is a real challenge for students, and it just shows the stickability that they’ve had to keep going all the way through, to get the amazing set of results that they’ve achieved today.
It’s been a really difficult journey for these students, especially with the world pandemic in the middle of it, which they’ve coped amazingly well with.
Over 90% of our students will now go onto University. We also have got an increasing number of students who’ve applied for Apprenticeships, and some have chosen to go into the world of work as well. “

Results day can be a significant and sometimes anxious moment for young people, following many years of study and preparation. I hope everyone receiving their results can be proud of the work they have put in to reach this point, whatever their results may be.
For many young people, today will help shape their next steps, whether that is going to university, starting an apprenticeship or entering employment. Whatever path they choose, I wish them every success as they begin the next chapter.
For those who may not have received the results they were expecting, please remember that there are still a range of options available. Schools, colleges and careers services can offer advice and support to help young people decide what comes next. “
Students who do not receive the results they were expecting, or need should speak to their school or college in the first instance about the options available to them, including the process for appealing grades. Walsall Council is supporting schools and academies with this offer.

The team provides tailored one-to-one support and training for young people aged 16 and over who are not in employment, education or training, helping them to identify and access opportunities in education, training and employment.

Year 11 students across Walsall will receive their GCSE results next week, on Thursday 20 August 2026.
