Walsall residents invited to help shape local climate plans

Published on

Residents in Pleck and Willenhall South are being invited to take part in two World Café events this August to help shape how their neighbourhoods respond to climate change.

Walsall Council House

The events form part of West Midlands Adapt (WM-Adapt), a regional project designed to collect a regional understanding of community perspectives of adaptation and transform local climate adaptation efforts.

The World Cafés will give residents a chance to share local experiences of climate impacts, validate climate risk data, and suggest ways their communities can adapt.

Events in Walsall are being delivered in partnership with the University of Birmingham and Birmingham Voluntary Service Council (BVSC), with support from community researchers.

Event details

  • Pleck: Wednesday 6 August 2025, 10am–2pm, Pleck Sons and Daughters of Rest
  • Willenhall South: Thursday 14 August 2025, 10am–2pm, Willenhall CHART Community Hub

Each session will include activities to explore local risks, responses to past extreme weather, and protection priorities. The events are open to people who live, work, or volunteer in the wards.

“ This is an opportunity for local people to share what matters most to them and influence how we adapt to climate challenges

“Climate change is already having an impact, and we want communities to inform the response. “

Councillor Suky Samra, Portfolio Holder for Street Pride

Following the events, four neighbourhoods across the region will be selected for more detailed climate adaptation planning.

Residents attending will also receive information on practical steps they can take to build climate resilience.
