Walsall residents invited to get free support to quit smoking this World No Tobacco Day
Published on
With World No Tobacco Day taking place on 31 May 2026, Walsall residents are being encouraged to take the first step towards a healthier future, with free local support available to help people quit smoking for good.
This year’s campaign, led by the World Health Organisation, highlights how tobacco and nicotine products are designed to appeal, particularly to young people, and why local support is more important than ever.
In Walsall, smoking continues to have a significant impact on health and wellbeing, with 14.8% of adults in Walsall smoking, which is above the national average. Walsall Council’s Public Health team and stop smoking providers are using the campaign to raise awareness of the support available to help residents quit.
“ World No Tobacco Day is a valuable opportunity to take a closer look at how tobacco and nicotine products are designed to appeal to people and can make it harder to stop.
In Walsall, we’re here to support you every step of the way with free, personalised help that makes quitting more achievable.
Whether you’ve tried quitting before or are starting to think about it, it’s never too late to make that first step. With the right support, you are up to three times more likely to quit for good. “
Alongside this, Walsall Council’s Trading Standards team is supporting wider efforts to reduce harm from tobacco and vaping by tackling illicit tobacco, enforcing age-of-sale laws, reducing the availability of products that appeal to children, and disrupting criminal supply chains that put young people at risk.
Services commissioned by Walsall Council and NHS partners work together to provide a range of free stop smoking support, helping residents access expert advice, personalised coaching, nicotine replacement therapies and digital tools.
