Walsall Re-Use Shop reaches 100,000 items sold

Walsall’s Re-Use Shop has sold its 100,000th item, with more than 109,000 people visiting the Middlemore Lane facility since it opened in February.
The milestone highlights the growing success of the shop in giving unwanted items a second life and keeping them in use for longer, rather than being thrown away.
The Re-Use Shop, at Middlemore Lane in Aldridge, opened on 2 February alongside the new Household Waste Recycling Centre. Residents can donate unwanted items at the site, where suitable goods are assessed and checked before being offered for sale.
In total, the items sold through the shop represent 316 tonnes diverted from the waste stream.
Stock at the shop is ever-changing and includes furniture, homeware, toys, books, sports equipment, baby items, clothing, electrical goods, garden equipment and other one-off donations.
Money raised through the Re-Use Shop supports the running of the site. As the shop continues to grow, money will also be made available for initiatives that benefit communities and the environment.

Recycle Week, which runs from 14 to 20 September, is an annual campaign encouraging people to recycle more of the right things, more often.
While recycling turns used materials into new products, reuse keeps the existing item in circulation for longer. The Re-Use Shop is part of the Council’s wider waste strategy and focuses specifically on this approach.
The Re-Use Shop is open seven days a week and is available to everyone, including people who do not live in Walsall. Customers do not need to use the Household Waste Recycling Centre to visit the shop and no membership is required.
The shop is at Middlemore Lane, Aldridge, Walsall, WS9 8EE.
Opening hours are:
- Monday: 9am to 5pm
- Tuesday: 8am to 4pm
- Wednesday: 9am to 5pm
- Thursday: 10am to 6pm
- Friday: 9am to 5pm
- Saturday: 9am to 5pm
- Sunday: 10am to 4pm
Customers can pay by card only. Items are sold as seen, with refunds available within 14 days with a receipt.
