Voluntary and community sector (VCS) organisations across Walsall are invited to apply for grant funding to deliver community-based physical activity programmes, aimed at reducing falls and frailty among residents aged 50 and over.

The programme forms part of Walsall’s Health in Later Life Physical Activity and Prevention Programme. Funding is available to support the delivery of low‑intensity, inclusive physical activity sessions designed to help improve strength, balance and confidence.

Grants of up to £6,000 are available. Funded projects will be required to deliver three 12-week sessions over a 12-month period, with sessions taking place within Walsall. Evening and weekend delivery is encouraged to support accessibility and inclusion.

Activities eligible for funding include walking groups, swimming sessions, cycling programmes, tai chi and yoga, bowls and dance activities and other low-intensity, community-based physical activities.

Organisations applying for funding will need to demonstrate experience in delivering similar activities and the ability to promote sessions to the target audience and referral partners. Applications must also include proposed timetables and venue details, safeguarding and risk assessments and plans for managing referrals, non-attendance and data collection, including Timed Up and Go (TUG) tests and participant questionnaires. Organisations will need to have knowledge of other locality-based provision to support participants with onward referrals, once participants have completed their programme.

Applications will be reviewed by locality leads and Walsall Council officers.
