Published on

Walsall Council announces with great sadness the passing of former Mayor of Walsall, Councillor Angela Underhill.

Angela 3

Councillor Underhill was a dedicated public servant who served the people of Walsall for nearly three decades. First elected to the council in May 1996, she represented the wards of Willenhall South and Bentley/Darlaston North. She remained a steadfast voice for her constituents until her retirement from active service in 2024.

Councillor Underhill served as the Mayor of Walsall for the 2015–2016 civic year. During her Mayoral year, she supported various charities and vulnerable groups and raising vital funds for several key charities, including the MS Therapy Centre, raising funds for those living with Multiple Sclerosis, Multiple Sclerosis Research, FastAid, West Midlands Amputee Support Group and CLIC Sargent (supporting children with cancer).

“ It is with an incredibly heavy heart that we received the news of Angela Underhill’s passing. Angela was a pillar of the Walsall community, dedicating 28 years of exemplary service to the residents she loved so dearly.

During her time as Mayor, she brought people together with her trademark kindness and grace, representing Walsall at numerous community engagements, religious and business events or promoting vital charities. Her legacy of selflessness and public service will continue to inspire us all.

On behalf of Walsall Council and the entire borough, I extend our deepest condolences to Angela’s family, friends, and former colleagues during this difficult time. “

The Mayor of Walsall, Councillor Alan Fleming QRM
