Former Mayor of Walsall Kath Phillips sadly passed away earlier this year in April 2026 following a short illness.

She was first elected to Walsall Council in May 1998 as a Labour representative for Bloxwich East and served for 20 years before retiring in May 2018.

Ms Phillips served as Mayor in the 2016-2017 municipal year and during this time fundraised for St. Giles Hospice in Walsall. During her years of council service, she chaired the North Walsall Area Panel (2014) and held the role of vice-chair for Community Organisation, Leisure and Culture (2005).

“ I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former Mayor Kath Phillips JP. Achieving twenty years of public service shows her longstanding loyalty to the borough of Walsall, particularly the Bloxwich area.

“On behalf of all at Walsall Council, I’d like to extend our condolences to Kath’s loved ones at this incredibly sad time. “
