Walsall Council invests over £530,000 to improve community facilities at Mayfield Centre

Walsall Council has awarded significant investment to enhance facilities at the Mayfield Community Centre on Wednesbury Road.
The Council has allocated £531,538.83 to support essential improvements for two valued community organisations that are located at the centre: Walsall Black Sisters Collective (WBSC) and the Union of Muslim Organisations (UMO).
“ This investment is a clear demonstration of our commitment to strengthening the foundations of community life in Walsall. By enhancing the Mayfield Centre’s facilities, we’re ensuring that organisations like UMO and WBSC have the spaces they need to support, empower, and bring people together. “
The funding, delivered through the Walsall Town Deal’s Community Capital programme, aims to help strengthen community infrastructure and ensure that local organisations have safe, modern, and accessible spaces to deliver vital services to residents.
The improvement works will ensure that both organisations can continue their valuable work for years to come, fostering inclusion, wellbeing, and opportunity across Walsall. UMO will be creating a new training and community welfare centre with accessible toilets and a kitchen, while WBSC will be able to carry out critical building repairs including roof repairs to prevent leaks.
“ We are delighted that through Community Capital Funding we are once again able to carry out essential internal repairs. This investment will transform our ability to serve the community, in particular to meet our disability access requirements. The new facilities will allow us to expand our training programmes, provide better welfare support, and create a welcoming working environment for all “
“ These improvements will make a huge difference to the people we support. A safe, accessible, and welcoming environment is essential for our wellbeing programmes and community activities. We thank Walsall Council for helping us continue our mission to empower and uplift local residents. “
