Walsall Archives extends opening hours to welcome more visitors

Published on

Walsall Archives is extending its opening hours to give residents, researchers and history enthusiasts more opportunities to explore the borough’s rich heritage.

Walsall Archive Research room

From Saturday 4 October, Walsall Archives, located at the Lichfield Street Hub, will open on the first Saturday of every month, 10am to 4pm. This will make the service more accessible for residents unable to visit during the week.

In addition, Friday afternoon opening hours have been extended, with the service now available from 10am to 3pm.

“ Walsall has a fascinating history, and our archives are a vital resource for anyone interested in exploring it.

“By extending opening hours, we’re making it easier for more people to enjoy these collections and connect with the borough’s past. Whether you’re researching family history, studying local heritage or just curious, our staff can help. “

Councillor Gary Flint, Portfolio Holder for Culture, Health and Wellbeing at Walsall Council

Walsall Archives holds a wide range of collections that tell the story of Walsall’s people, communities and places. To make the most of a visit, residents are encouraged to book an appointment in advance by emailing the team with details of the materials they wish to access. This ensures staff can prepare resources and provide the best possible experience.

The archives catalogue can be searched online via the National Archives and Black Country History websites, while the collection of local history books can be browsed through Walsall Library Services’ online catalogue.

Walsall Archives is based at the Lichfield Street Hub. For further details, including how to book an appointment, visit Walsall Archives online or contact the team at localhistorycentre@walsall.gov.uk
