Volunteers help prepare Palfrey Park for summer

Published on

Volunteers have helped give Palfrey Park a seasonal refresh as part of a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) volunteering day delivered in partnership with Walsall Council’s Grounds Team.

The project brought together volunteers from Women in Planning West Midlands, alongside colleagues from Walsall Council’s Finance & Compliance Team and Energy & Climate Team, to carry out a range of improvements across the park.

Working alongside council staff, volunteers helped reintroduce flower beds throughout the park by preparing new planting areas and planting bedding plants grown by Walsall Council. The team also applied mulch around tree bases to help suppress weeds naturally and carefully edged pathways to improve the appearance and accessibility of the site.

The work has helped prepare Palfrey Park for the busy summer period, creating a more welcoming environment for residents and visitors to enjoy.

Palfrey Park has held Green Flag status for a number of years, recognising the high standards of management, maintenance and community value delivered at the site.

Well-maintained parks provide a wide range of benefits for local communities. They encourage physical activity, support health and wellbeing, create opportunities for social interaction and provide attractive green spaces where people can connect with nature.

“ This volunteering day demonstrates the positive impact that partnership working can have on our parks and green spaces. The improvements made at Palfrey Park will help ensure it remains an attractive and welcoming place for residents and visitors, while supporting the high standards expected of a Green Flag park. “

Councillor Matt Eason, Portfolio Holder for Culture, Health and Wellbeing

The activity forms part of Walsall Council’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme, which provides opportunities for businesses, organisations and volunteers to support community projects and environmental improvements across the borough.
