Rushall Care Home scores a first with Veterans Friendly status

Rushall Care Home, supported by Walsall Council, has become the first care home in the Black Country to sign up to the Veterans Friendly Framework (VFF).
To mark this achievement, Rushall Care Home hosted a tea party and belated VJ 80 Day celebration on Wednesday 20 August, attended by the Mayor of Walsall, Councillor Louise Harrison, and the council’s Armed Forces Champion, Councillor Adam Hicken.
The VFF is designed specifically for residential settings for older people, helping care providers to identify veterans, understand their wellbeing needs, tackle social isolation, and provide signposting to both statutory and charitable services.
Rushall Care Home currently has three veterans and 12 spouses of veterans among its residents. By committing to the VFF, the home will ensure that those with military connections receive the tailored support and recognition they deserve.
The VFF consists of eight standards which care providers are expected to meet to complete their accreditation. Each standard is supported by a set of resources to help care homes demonstrate their achievement.
“ It is wonderful to see Rushall Care Home leading the way in becoming the first home in the Black Country to sign up to the Veterans Friendly Framework. Our veterans and their families have given so much in service to this country, and it is only right that they receive the respect, support, and recognition they deserve in later life. Rushall’s commitment sets an excellent example for other care providers in the region to follow. “
“ We are so proud to be the first care home in Walsall to achieve Veteran Friendly Framework accreditation. Many of our residents have connections to the Armed Forces, and it is important that we continue to acknowledge their contribution and support their unique needs. This Framework will help us strengthen the care, respect, and opportunities we provide to our veteran community here at Rushall and show our support to the wider community of veterans in the Walsall area. “
Rushall Care Home is a family-owned home providing care for up to 36 nursing residents. The home prides itself on offering a safe, warm, and friendly environment while encouraging independence, dignity, and choice.
Commemorations of the 80th anniversary of VJ Day took place across the borough last week, with local groups and organisations hosting events that combined remembrance, reflection and community spirit.
