Norton Road will be closed between the junctions of Charles Crescent and Nest Common from Monday 19 May until Sunday 22 June 2025.

This allows for a critical part of the construction of the bridge to take place, while maintaining the safety of both the workforce and the public. During the closure, full carriageway construction from the South Staffordshire boundary towards the site entrance, and drainage works in the existing highway on the south side, will take place.

A diversion will be in operation throughout the work along A 4124 (Lichfield Road) and A 452 (Chester Road North). During this time, road signs will be in place to notify passing motorists.

“ While I know road closures can cause disruption, we have diversion routes in place to mitigate against this as much as possible. The disruption will be with us for few weeks, but the improvements will be with us for a lifetime.

“The project is progressing well, and I look forward to the work being completed by the end of the year.

“Every effort will be made to ensure disruption and delays are kept to a minimum, and I would like to thank all residents in advance for their patience and understanding. “

Councillor Adrian Andrew, Associate Leader of Walsall Council

Once complete, York’s Bridge will provide a safer route for all road users, including a two-way traffic bridge and a dedicated footway. The project will also deliver parking bays to facilitate access to the nearby common and create a pond and several new embankments north of the new bridge.

Construction has been ongoing since August 2024 and is set to be complete by the end of 2025.
