Response to Leather Museum Question at Council
Published on
The Leader of the Council, Cllr Elaine Williams, advised that a published written response would be provided to a question at council about the Leather Museum.
Question to Council
Investigate the officers and Councillors alleged to have exposed the Council, not once but twice, to legal, reputational and financial risk, or explain publicly why no investigation will take place; report any findings in full to Full Council; publish within 20 working days a timetable for full consultation about and the earliest possible reinstatement of the Leather Museum, including implications for staffing and the potential loss of vital knowledge about the collections; provide a timetable for securing much needed alternative accommodation for 16+ SEND provision; and lastly to answer these questions in an open and public letter within 20 working days?
Response
Counsel has been instructed to provide independent advice on whether the appropriate processes were followed, whether proper advice was provided, and on the legality of the lease arrangements. Internal Audit will also undertake a separate investigation, led by the Director of Finance and Procurement.
The findings will be considered through the appropriate Council governance arrangements, subject to legal and confidentiality requirements.
The Council is also working with the College to identify a way forward that would enable the Leather Museum to reopen, including consideration of the future operating arrangements, consultation, staffing implications and suitable alternative accommodation for 16+ SEND provision.
