Waste and recycling
Residents invited to have say on Walsall’s draft waste strategy
Published on
Walsall Council is asking residents, businesses and community groups to help shape a new 10-year waste strategy that sets out how the borough will manage waste and recycling up to 2035.
The draft strategy, titled ‘Waste Not, Want Not: Walsall’s Journey to Sustainability’, sets out the council’s ambition to become a zero waste to landfill authority. It outlines a clear commitment to cutting waste, increasing recycling, improving infrastructure and making it easier for residents to do the right thing.
The consultation is now open and will run for four weeks until August 21. Feedback received will be used to help finalise the strategy later this year.
“ This is about building a cleaner, greener and more sustainable borough together.
“We’ve made progress in recent years—but we know we must do more. Reducing waste and improving recycling rates is good for the environment, saves money and helps us futureproof our services. We’re asking everyone to get involved and help shape our future direction. “
The strategy is built around five objectives: waste prevention and reduction, improved reuse and recycling, resource recovery, landfill diversion, and community engagement.
Each objective is supported by practical actions and performance measures to ensure progress is tracked and reported annually. Actions include infrastructure development, education, partnerships and policy implementation.
The council is particularly keen to hear from residents about their views on the draft objectives and actions laid out in the strategy.
The consultation will run until August 21 and can be found here: https://walsallsays.commonplace.is/en-GB/proposals/v3/waste-strategy?step=step1
