Walsall residents are being encouraged to check that they and their families are up to date with their vaccinations as part of World Immunisation Week (24-30 April 2026).

This year’s theme, ‘For every generation, vaccines work’, highlights the role of vaccination in protecting health across all ages.

Vaccination has helped protect people, families and communities for decades, with efforts continuing to reduce diseases worldwide which can be prevented with vaccines. World Immunisation Week encourages residents to review their vaccination status in line with national guidance.

Recent years have seen some vaccine-preventable diseases re-emerge in parts of the UK (such as measles, whooping cough and meningitis), particularly where vaccination uptake has declined. Getting vaccinated remains essential to prevent outbreaks and protect those who are most vulnerable, including babies, older adults and people with weakened immune systems.

In Walsall, routine vaccination services continue to be provided through GP practices and local healthcare providers. Residents can access information on the NHS vaccination schedule and arrange appointments as required to catch up on missed doses.

“ Vaccines save lives and World Immunisation Week offers a timely reminder of the vaccinations available for children and adults alike. While many vaccine-preventable diseases are now less common, some have returned where vaccination levels have fallen, highlighting the importance of continued routine vaccination. Our local services support you in accessing vaccinations in line with national recommendations. If you are not sure if you are up to date, speak to your GP or your healthcare professional. It is never too late to catch up on any missed vaccines. “
