£150,000 funding pot launched to support heritage projects in Walsall

Published on

A new funding pot is launching on Wednesday 16 July 2025 to support heritage-related projects in Walsall.

Herittage fund

Community groups and voluntary sector organisations will be able to apply for grants through ‘Our Heritage: Walsall Community Heritage Fund’, of up to £10,000 per project, thanks to funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund and money raised by the National Lottery Players.

“ We’re delighted to announce this funding pot, and hope our voluntary and community sector organisations will propose some exciting projects. We have a proud heritage in our towns and communities across Walsall, and it is right we preserve and promote that. This funding will help communities to celebrate their heritage.

The programme welcomes new and innovative ideas, including from groups exploring heritage for the first time, so please, take a look at the funding criteria, and I look forward to seeing what projects come forward. “

Councillor Adam Hicken, Portfolio Holder for Enforcement and Safe Communities
Walsall Council

This initiative will empower local groups to deliver meaningful heritage projects in their communities, which support Walsall’s Heritage Strategy 2021–2026.

The funding supports projects that meet one or more of the following priorities:

  1. Save Walsall’s heritage – Improve access, understanding, condition, and digital engagement.
  2. Protect Walsall’s environment – Address nature conservation and climate change.
  3. Celebrate and inspire Walsall’s heritage – Reduce barriers, increase volunteering, and build workforce skills and diversity.

Example projects could include improving habitats, conserving species, connecting people with nature or recording cultural traditions.  Engaging the public through events, walks, exhibitions, and online material is also encouraged. Projects that commemorate significant people, places, events or anniversaries are welcome too.

To help applicants get started, a Project Creator Workshop will be held online on Wednesday, 16 July 2025 at 12:00 noon. This session will provide essential information on how to apply and develop a successful project.

In addition, the programme is proud to introduce ‘Community Voices’, a participatory grant-making initiative that invites local residents to help shape funding decisions and celebrate Walsall’s rich heritage.
