Primary school pupils reach national enterprise final for fifth consecutive year

The future is looking bright for a group of entrepreneurial pupils in Walsall.

Pool Hayes Primary School 'Mind Craft' team

Ava-Grace, Bobby G, Cole, Eliza, Isla, Kayleigh, Noah, and Theo are year six pupils at Pool Hayes primary school, Willenhall, and have reached the final of a national enterprise competition.

The team - named Mind Craft – founded their feel-good business that helped peers unwind and explore their creativity, offering a series of after school arts and crafts events to the school community.

During their trading window, Mind Craft generated over £720 in profit from their initial start-up loan, which is more than an 800% return on investment. Due to their impressive record, the team topped their league competing against more than 300 other schools from across the UK.

This is the fifth consecutive year Pool Hayes have reached the finals of the Tycoon Enterprise Competition, launched by Peter Jones CBE in 2012. The competition gives pupils a start-up loan to launch and run a business while at school or college, offering a hands-on experience of entrepreneurship and helps children and young people develop vital business skills they may rely on later in life.

Alan Carter, Deputy Headteacher at Pool Hayes Primary School, said, “Mind Craft are a shining example of creativity, teamwork and entrepreneurial spirit. We’re incredibly proud of their achievement and can’t wait to cheer them on in the final this autumn. Reaching the finals for five consecutive years is a remarkable tradition that reflects our school’s commitment to nurturing enterprise and innovation.

“All of us at school are enormously proud of the team and their achievements.”

“ Congratulations to the Mind Craft team! It is so inspiring to see our young people applying business skills in their communities from such a young age.

The team clearly had a great business plan, generated a fantastic return on investment, and had fun whilst doing so. We will all be backing you in the finals later this year! “
