New SEND provision for children in Walsall confirmed

184 additional Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) school places are set to be created in Walsall following a major investment by Walsall Council.
Jubilee House on Bloxwich Lane, a former ambulance station, will be transformed into a modern, accessible and inclusive learning environment for children and young people with SEND.
The redevelopment will significantly increase local specialist provision, enabling more children and young people to access the educational support they need closer to home. It will also help reduce the need for some families to travel outside the borough for specialist education, allowing children to remain connected to their communities, friendships and wider support networks.

Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow and succeed in an environment that meets their individual needs. By creating more than 180 additional specialist places within the borough, more local children will be able to access the support they need while remaining close to home, connected to their communities, friendships and wider support networks.

The council will now begin further feasibility works before an extensive programme of refurbishments begin to transform Jubilee House into a purpose-designed education setting, with accessibility, wellbeing and inclusive learning at the heart of its redevelopments.
The project forms part of Walsall Council's wider commitment to expanding local SEND provision and improving outcomes for children and young people across the borough.
Further details about the refurbishment programme and project timescales will be shared as plans progress.
