New funding to help Walsall residents build financial resilience and access support

Published on

Local organisations are being invited to apply for funding to help residents manage financial pressures, improve their financial wellbeing and build greater long-term stability.

Walsall town centre

Walsall Council is inviting applications from voluntary, community, faith and not-for-profit organisations to deliver projects that can help residents navigate financial challenges, access the right advice and reduce reliance on crisis support.

The Walsall Crisis and Resilience Fund (CRF) Resilience Initiatives Grant Programme, funded by the Department for Work and Pensions, will support activity that helps residents build financial resilience and access support before they reach crisis point.

This funding provides an opportunity for organisations across Walsall to develop practical, preventative approaches that help residents improve their financial wellbeing, access advice and build greater resilience for the future.

We would encourage organisations with ideas, experience and local knowledge to find out more about the funding available and consider applying, including working with partners where this can help reach and support more residents.”

Funding can support projects covering areas including:

  • financial wellbeing and income maximisation
  • debt advice, budgeting and money management
  • digital inclusion
  • employment pathways
  • water and energy affordability
  • reducing reliance on emergency food and crisis support

Organisations can also apply to the Community Resilience Initiatives Fund to develop their own ideas to help build stronger, more resilient local communities.

Consortium bids are encouraged, helping organisations work together to meet residents’ needs and strengthen referral pathways and partnership working.

Applications that demonstrate strong partnership working, effective referral pathways, prevention-focused approaches and measurable outcomes are particularly welcomed.

All applications will be assessed against the published criteria, including how well proposals support CRF outcomes and demonstrate deliverability, value for money and impact.

Funding available

There is no prescribed maximum grant value. Applicants should request funding proportionate to the activities and outcomes proposed and provide clear justification demonstrating value for money.

The Debt Provision Fund has up to £300,000 available. The Council intends to fund more than one organisation to deliver debt provision, and applicants to the Debt Provision Fund can apply for up to 50 per cent of the total fund.

Funding is currently available until 31 March 2027, with a potential extension to 31 March 2029, subject to performance and confirmation of future funding.
