More than 100,000 tonnes of household waste collected in Walsall last year

Walsall Council collected approximately 115,000 tonnes of household waste last year, maintaining a 99.96% successful collection rate over that period.
On Wednesday 26 February, Councillor Kerry Murphy, Portfolio Holder for Street Pride, will deliver an update outlining key achievements across areas including highways and waste.
Walsall Council maintains approximately 520 miles of local roads. Over the past year, 16.5 miles of Walsall's roads were resurfaced, and 4,000 road defects were repaired. Meanwhile, 34,000 of the borough’s drains were cleaned, while 10 miles of road markings were refreshed.
“ The success of our services is driven by our dedicated staff and partners, who I can’t thank enough. I’d also like to say thank you to our local volunteers and community groups, whose invaluable efforts support council services and make Walsall a better place.
“In the year ahead, we will be developing our new waste strategy. This will emphasise a shift towards a circular economy, where materials are reused and recycled. “
Walsall Council’s new waste strategy will launch in Autumn 2025, coinciding with the opening of a new Household Waste Recycling Centre and Waste Transfer Station on Middlemore Lane, Aldridge.
Construction at the site is on track and expected to be complete by August 2025. The facility will enhance service capacity, reduce queues, and introduce a reuse shop to divert items from landfills.
Walsall Council is also moving forward with plans to establish weekly ‘Food Waste Collections’. All councils must introduce these collections in 2026 under Government legislation. Walsall Council’s goal is to deliver accessible, convenient services which improve recycling rates.

There are two Household Waste Recycling Centers (HWRCs) in the borough of Walsall which are free to use: Fryers Road, Bloxwich and Merchants Way, Aldridge. A new state-of-the-art Household Waste Recycling Centre and Waste Transfer Station in Aldridge is also under construction, due to be completed later this year.
- The council offers a bulky items collection service for residents who may struggle to take larger items to a Household Waste Recycling Centre. This can be booked through the Council website.
- Residents who are struggling to manage their household waste, for example because of a growing family or an ongoing medical condition, can apply for a larger bin through the Council’s website.
