Man ordered to pay more than £2,000 for littering on three separate occasions in Walsall

Published on

A man has been ordered to pay more than £2,000 for disposing of takeaway waste at the same location on three different occasions in Walsall.

Kallum Wood was handed three fines of £440

The case was brought before Birmingham Magistrates' Court by the council’s Community Protection Team on January 31, 2024.

Kallum Wood of Duckery Wood Walk, Birmingham, was handed three fines of £440 for disposing of takeaway waste on High Street, Pelsall.

In addition to the fines, Wood was ordered to pay a surcharge of £528 and costs of £555.16, bringing the total cost to £2,403.16.

Wood was caught by Walsall Council CCTV cameras on three separate occasions between 31 July 2023 and 13 August 2023, prompting action to be taken by the Community Protection Team.

Councillor Garry Perry, Deputy Leader for Resilient Communities, said, “This is a large fine for someone who continually flouted the rules on multiple occasions, leaving his rubbish for others to deal with.

“As a council, we won’t tolerate people littering in the borough and hopefully a case that has cost someone more than £2,000 acts as a deterrent to anyone who partakes in similar behaviour.

“Our team's collective efforts made this outcome possible, and I want to place on record my thanks for all the hard work that goes into keeping our streets clean.”

Walsall Council has also prosecuted Brooke Ellitts of Fairlawn Way, Willenhall, for disposing of litter on New Invention Square, Willenhall on 25 October 2023.

Ellitts was fined £220 and ordered to pay a surcharge of £88 in addition to costs of £276.72, bringing the total cost to 584.72.
