Walsall Council has appointed Kier as contractor for the landmark Connected Gateway scheme in Walsall Town Centre.
In 2021 Walsall Council secured funding of £11.4m from the Future High Street Fund and the first phases of the Connected Gateway project began construction at the end of 2024, with the downstairs area in the Saddlers Shopping Centre being remodelled.
Kier is expected to be on-site in late Autumn to begin the major renovation and remodelling of Park Street in Walsall Town Centre, including the demolition of some buildings to create a large open walkway between the bus and railway stations.
“ I’m pleased that we have Kier on board to deliver this major regeneration scheme for Walsall Town Centre. It’s important for us to make sure people have a good experience when they come to Walsall and improving the aesthetics of the town centre will have a really positive impact. I look forward to seeing the transformation start to take shape next year. “
“ We are delighted to support Walsall Council’s vision to deliver major regeneration works in the town centre. This venture will improve access to two key transport hubs and upgrade visitor experience, which will increase footfall and boost the local economy.
Repurposing the main shopping centre will positively transform the town for locals, as well as supporting future growth and regeneration “
Completion of the scheme in its entirety is expected to be in 2027.
