Jorja Smith brings Walsall hometown to screens with new Spotify concert film

Published on

Jorja Smith’s special hometown performance in Walsall is now available for fans around the world to experience, with the release of a new Spotify concert film capturing her landmark hometown show.

Jorja Smith Hometown Movie Walsall

The Walsall-born singer-songwriter performed at Walsall Arena on Sunday 6 September as part of Spotify Hometown, a new live music series celebrating the places and communities that have helped shape some of the UK’s leading artists.

Walsall was the first location in the new series, with Jorja performing where she grew up and first began writing and recording music as a teenager.

The intimate performance brought together around 600 fans, alongside Walsall talent including fellow artist Wesley Joseph and The Blue Lights Choir, giving the community that helped shape Jorja’s journey a place at the heart of the show.

Now, the concert film gives audiences beyond Walsall the opportunity to experience the performance and see the borough showcased on a global platform. Spotify announced Hometown as a series designed to bring artists back to the communities that shaped them, with each live performance subsequently released as an exclusive concert film.

“ It was fantastic to see Jorja return home and to see Walsall’s creativity, talent and communities placed centre stage as part of such a significant event. The release of the concert film means that the story of Jorja’s homecoming can now be shared far beyond Walsall, giving audiences around the world an opportunity to see both her talent and what talented people we have in the borough

This is a great example of the opportunities that can come from celebrating what makes Walsall unique and creating platforms for our communities and local talent. “

Councillor Alan Fleming QRM
The Mayor of Walsall

“ Hosting Jorja Smith and Spotify at Walsall Arena was a fantastic opportunity to showcase our venue and our borough to a much wider audience. The weekend also highlighted the depth of creative talent within our borough, from established artists to young people and community organisations. It was a fitting celebration of Walsall’s cultural offer and the people who make our borough what it is.

The concert film supports the ambitions of We Are Walsall 2040, the borough’s long-term vision, including creating a Walsall where people are proud of the place they call home. “

Councillor Matt Eason
Portfolio Holder for Culture, Health and Wellbeing

It also reflects the importance of celebrating Walsall’s communities, culture and local identity, while creating opportunities for local people and promoting the borough as a place to live, work, visit and invest.

The Spotify Hometown concert film is available to watch on Spotify now.
