Independent Person for Audit Committee
Published on
Walsall Council is currently looking to appoint an Independent Person to its Audit Committee.
Independent Person
The role would particularly suit someone with a keen interest in the Council, an enthusiasm for maintaining high standards in public life and the ability to act objectively with impartiality and maintaining confidentiality at all times. Key to the role of the committee is the consideration of financial information, and particularly the annual statement of accounts. To balance existing knowledge and experience of committee members, we are ideally seeking an individual with a background in final accounts and / or the auditing process within the public sector.
Audit Committee
The Audit Committee’s purpose is to gain assurance on the adequacy of the risk management framework and internal control environment. It undertakes an independent review of governance, risk management and control frameworks, which includes the council’s arrangements for performance management and overseeing the financial reporting and annual governance processes.
The Committee holds up to five meetings a year and, as a non-voting member, you will be expected to attend regular training, read reports prior to meetings to be able to ask questions and challenge, enquire and probe issues in a positive way.
The term of office is for four years, subject to any extension that may be agreed on individual cases arising from the needs of the service, including the induction and training needs of newly appointed persons in the role.
The role attracts an annual allowance of £750.00 and appropriate training will be provided as part of the role.
