Free ‘Winter Warm Up’ event to help residents with energy costs
Published on
Walsall is turning global climate conversations into practical support for residents this winter. The Walsall Energy Action Project (WEAP) will be hosting a free community drop-in event, the “Winter Warm Up,” at Walsall Town Hall on Tuesday 9 December.
The event runs from 10am to 2pm and is designed to offer advice and hands-on help to help households cut energy use, reduce bills and improve home comfort. On the day, The Mayor of Walsall, Councillor Louise Harrison will be in attendance to give a brief speech to the audience
Launched in April 2024, WEAP is collaboration between Walsall Council and partners from the voluntary and community sector, funded by the National Lottery Community Fund. Since its launch, the project has delivered about 100 group sessions and successfully helped more than 5,000 residents with energy-saving and climate action advice.
The Winter Warm Up session will offer:
- One-to-one energy advice sessions,
- Demonstrations of simple home improvements for efficiency,
- Assistance checking eligibility for grants and better energy tariffs,
- Tips to save energy and reduce costs and help understanding complex energy bills.
“ The rising cost of energy is a major concern for many families in Walsall and our priority is delivering tangible benefits right here at home.
This event will provide the essential, practical support our residents need to stay warm without breaking the bank. As the nights get colder, I strongly encourage everyone residents, landlords, and community groups to come down to the town hall for free advice and support that can make a real difference to their bills this winter. “
The event is timely as world leaders recently met at COP30 to advance international climate commitments. WEAP is using this opportunity to show how global policy discussions translate into neighbourhood-level action, focusing on practical measures residents can adopt now to save energy and money.
The drop-in is aimed at residents, landlords, and community groups seeking straightforward, impartial advice on heating, insulation, and energy bills. No appointment is needed, and residents are invited to attend Walsall Town Hall for free refreshments and expert support.
