Free electric blanket safety testing offered to Walsall residents

Walsall residents will be able to have their electric blankets safety tested for free ahead of winter.
Hosted by Walsall Council’s Trading Standards team, the two-day event will take place at the Lichfield Street Hub on Monday 28 and Tuesday 29 September, from 9.30am to 3pm.
Residents will have the opportunity to have their electric blankets professionally checked and receive advice on keeping their homes safe during the colder months. The service is free, but is only available to Walsall residents, who will need to bring proof of address such as a utility bill.
Electric blankets can become damaged over time, particularly if they have been folded, rolled or stored incorrectly. Faults with wiring, plugs and controls can also create a risk of electric shock or fire.
“ Electric blankets can provide an affordable way to keep warm during the winter, but like any electrical item they need to be safe to use.
“This free testing event gives residents the opportunity to have their blankets checked by professionals and get advice before the colder weather arrives.
“I would encourage anyone who has an electric blanket, particularly an older one, to bring it along and get it tested. It is a simple step that could help prevent a serious accident and give people peace of mind. “
