The Forgotten Generations: Walsall Archives honours Black RAF veterans in Remembrance exhibition

Published on

The team at Walsall Archives is inviting residents to visit its special Remembrance exhibition which honours the contribution and service of Black Royal Air Force veterans.

Two display boards with information on The Forgotten Generations exhibition on them.

The Forgotten Generations exhibition is now proudly displayed on the second floor of the Lichfield Street Hub and Walsall Archives until the end of November 2026. It celebrates the legacies of nine Black RAF veterans, including two who served during World War II.

β€œ Remembrance provides an opportunity for us to reflect on the sacrifices made by those who served our country. This exhibition shines a light on the experiences and achievements of Black RAF veterans whose stories deserve to be remembered and celebrated. I would encourage residents to visit Walsall Archives and take the opportunity to learn more about these remarkable individuals and their contribution to our nation's history.

β€œOn behalf of Walsall Council, and the team at Walsall Archives, I would also like to express our thanks to Donald Campbell, the founder and CEO of The Forgotten Generations, for his kind loan of the exhibition materials which has enabled us to bring these important stories to a much wider audience. β€œ

The exhibition forms part of a larger National Lottery Heritage Fund supported project that aims to recognise and preserve the stories and experience of Black British people whose inspiring stories may otherwise be overlooked or forgotten.

It offers visitors an opportunity to learn more about the contributions made by Black service men and women in the RAF and reflect on their role in shaping Britain's history during times of conflict and service. The exhibition is free to view during opening hours at the Lichfield Street Hub and Walsall Archives until 30 November 2026. The wider exhibition is available to view at Sandwell College.
