Work is underway to upgrade the flood lights in Pelsall as part of a wider community lead project to improve cohesion and pride of place.

Lighting Up Pelsall, a Crowdfund Walsall project in partnership with Preservation of Pelsall Remembrance Service (POPRS), has received £5,000 from the Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund to invest in lighting up the village of Pelsall to bring the community together and create a sense of pride.

The first phase of the project has seen the existing floodlights upgraded with new lanterns (with the POPRS group bringing in colour changing lanterns) as part of improvement work in key locations across the village such as the Clock Tower and Cenotaph. A further phase will follow.

At key times during the year, the project will also see the lights being used to reflect events, festivals and seasons to celebrate the diverse community of Walsall (e.g. colours to reflect special holidays, charity awareness events and community days).

“ I am delighted this project supported through Crowdfund Walsall is now underway that will bring different communities together to promote cohesion and pride. We had a public consultation that received a little over 200 responses with 90% support for the scheme. This is the first phase which has seen flood lights installed in key locations across Pelsall village, with more work to come ahead.

Once completed, we hope that this will provide opportunities for different events and ceremonies to take place for communities to unite and celebrate key events throughout the year. “
