Explore opportunities as part of National Apprenticeship Week 2025

Published on

Walsall Council is marking National Apprenticeship Week (10-16 February 2025) by encouraging people of all ages to find out more about apprenticeship opportunities at the council.

NAW 2025

Over the last three years, 285 apprenticeships have been completed through the council’s programme. A new apprenticeship programme is in development and will be launched later this spring. Called ‘Inclusive Futures’, aimed at developing tomorrow’s workforce today. This programme forms part of the council’s new Council Plan.

“ We are delighted to be able to offer exciting career opportunities to so many apprentices. Our newly improved apprenticeship programme is a major part of our Council Plan and We are Walsall 2040 vision. This will continue to support the professional development of our workforce and provide opportunities to develop professional skills for both existing staff and newly recruited apprentices. “

Councillor Pardeep Kaur, Portfolio Holder for Education and Skills at Walsall Council

Council employee Eden Turley started working for the council as an apprentice in 2019 and now works as a Civil Engineer in the Transportation team.

He said, “I started looking for an apprenticeship after my A Levels. I didn’t want to go to university full-time but wanted to combine study and work experience. I have now completed five years as an apprentice at Walsall Council.

“Apprenticeships provide a good learning experience. It’s helped me study at university without accumulating debt as tuition fees are paid by your employer and you get a wage. It’s been a great experience, and I achieved a first-class degree and am now working full-time at the council. I have also become a member of the Institute of Civil Engineers.”
