Drop-in events planned for residents to learn more about food waste collections
Published on
Walsall residents still have time to share their views on proposals for new weekly food waste collections.

A public consultation remains open until 7 November 2025, meaning there are just over 5 weeks remaining for residents to share views.
Walsall Council is encouraging as many residents as possible to get involved, either by completing the short online survey or by attending one of a series of upcoming drop-in events to learn more. These events give people the chance to ask questions and find out more about the proposals.
Drop-in dates and locations:
- Tuesday 7 October, 12noon – 3pm at Tesco Extra, Littleton Street West, Walsall, WS2 8EQ
- Thursday 16 October, 9.30am – 12.30pm at ASDA Bloxwich, 570 Bloxwich Road, Leamore, Walsall WS3 2BB
- Tuesday 21 October, 9.30am – 12.30pm at Morrisons, Middle Piece Way, Willenhall, WV13 1QG
- Wednesday 29 October, 9.30am – 12.30pm at ASDA, George Street, WS1 1RS
“ This is an important consultation that affects every household in Walsall.
“We want to make sure we get it right for our residents. I would encourage everyone to take a few minutes to fill out the survey or come along to one of the drop-in events to share their views. “
The consultation sets out two possible options for how food waste could be collected:
Option 1 - separate weekly food waste collection + small electrical items
A separate weekly food waste collection, with households given a small kitchen caddy and a larger lockable kerbside caddy.
- Includes free doorstep collection of small electrical items.
- Adds approximately £1.7 million per year to the cost of waste services.
Option 2 - mixed food and garden waste collection
A weekly mixed food and garden waste collection, using the existing brown wheeled bin.
- Does not include doorstep collection of small electrical items.
- Adds approximately £2.6 million per year to the cost of waste services.
