Consultation launched for new secondary school in Walsall

Published on

The Department for Education has launched a public consultation regarding a new secondary school proposed for Walsall.

Consultation Open - Windsor Apollo Academy

“ In December 2025, the Department for Education confirmed that Walsall had been selected as one of just sixteen new schools to be developed across England. Around £50 million will be invested to create a new school that will educate up to 1,000 local young people and provide 24 much needed, high need SEND places.

The school will be built on the former Reedswood Golf Course site - council owned land situated adjacent to Reedswood Park. The voices of residents and the wider community will be essential in shaping how the school takes shape, so I encourage everyone to get involved and share their views.

This new school will help us support long term demand for school places across Walsall, and ensure we meet our statutory duty to provide school places to all children. Schools offer so much more than education - they are central to our communities and play a vital role in helping children and families thrive.

Councillor Mark Statham, Portfolio Holder for Children’s, Families and Lifelong Learning
Walsall Council

The consultation launched alongside a community drop-in event hosted by the Department for Education and their appointed construction partner, BAM construction. Local residents were invited to Talbot House on Bentley Lane on the 17th March, to look at proposals so far and provide their views. Feedback collated from the consultation will inform a planning application submitted to Walsall Council’s planning services later this year.

Windsor Academy Trust were selected by the Department as the education partner on the school. The Trust already has two primary schools in the borough, Rivers and Goldsmith Primary Academies, and have decided upon a name for the new school, which is Windsor Apollo Academy.

Dawn Haywood, Chief Executive of Windsor Academy Trust, said, “We are pleased that Walsall has been selected for this significant investment, and that Windsor Academy Trust has been chosen as the education partner for the new secondary school. This project will create much-needed, high-quality secondary school places right here in the borough, building upon the excellent work we already do at Goldsmith and Rivers Primary Academies. We have seen firsthand the transformative power of a new free school with the opening of Windsor Olympus Academy in Sandwell, and we are committed to developing a new school in Walsall that empowers every student to unlock both their academic and personal potential and supports the local community to thrive.”

The consultation remains open until Tuesday 7th April 2026.
