Community and business volunteers come together to enhance Palfrey Park

A community-led improvement day has delivered a range of enhancements to Palfrey Park.
Despite challenging weather conditions, volunteers from Walsall Council and local business Art Cleaning Services carried out a range of practical activities designed to improve the park for residents, visitors and wildlife.
Volunteers restored pathway edging to improve accessibility for all users, including wheelchair users and families with prams, and split and replanted herbaceous plants to strengthen planting beds, boost biodiversity and support pollinators.
Work also included mulching around tree bases to protect roots, retain moisture and suppress weeds.
“ Our parks and green spaces play a vital role in supporting people’s health, wellbeing and quality of life. This project at Palfrey Park shows what can be achieved when we work together with pride and purpose.
“I would like to thank Art Cleaning Services, all volunteers involved, and the council’s Grounds Team for their enthusiasm, dedication and hard work. “
“ We thoroughly enjoyed the experience of volunteering our time to support the Corporate Social Responsibility Programme at Palfrey Park. Our team found the volunteering opportunity incredibly rewarding — getting out of the office and doing something different certainly helped boost morale and gave a real sense of pride in helping others and the community.
"As a business that strives to deliver on its Corporate Social Responsibility this was a 'win win' for us to not only give back to our local community, but to also strengthen team relationships. We look forward to the next time! “
The project also delivered clear benefits for those taking part, offering opportunities for physical activity, teamwork, skills development and stronger community connections, alongside a shared sense of pride in making a visible difference locally.
The CSR programme connects local businesses with opportunities to support community projects, from environmental improvements to facility refurbishments, helping to deliver Walsall Council’s We Are Walsall 2040 vision for a healthier, safer and greener borough.
