Children in care celebration

The annual celebration awards, ‘Excellent Tea Party’ and ‘Excellent Night Out’ honour the successes and achievements of children and young people in our care.

The awards ceremony was hosted by the Mayor of Walsall, Councillor Louise Harrison. Speaking about the ceremony, she said, “What a heartwarming day we had celebrating some simply fantastic children and young people.

“This group of young people amazed me. They have faced, and continue to face, adversity and challenges throughout their childhoods, and to hear just some of the things they have achieved was a privilege. I hope all our children know how proud we are of them and their successes.

“On top of awards and certificates, we had plenty of fun, including games and activities, face painting, and lots of musical and dance performances from young people. Well done to all those involved in organising such a wonderful event.”

Celebrations were split into two sessions. One for primary school-aged children and a separate session for secondary-aged and post-16 young people. Professionals from the council’s children’s services who support the children and young people were able to join the celebrations too.

Awards on offer recognised children’s progress, dedication and talent. Categories included: academic achievement, personal development, resilience and community involvement.

One foster carer said, "This is absolutely wonderful. It's so good for the girls to have their achievements recognised and mingle with everyone, it builds up their confidence".

The awards ceremony marks the council’s ongoing commitment to children and young people in Walsall. Following an Ofsted inspection in May 2025, Inspectors shared that children in the care of Walsall Council receive outstanding support and have access to services that contribute positively to their health and wellbeing.
