Celebrate International Book Day with Walsall’s most popular reads

To mark International Book Day on Thursday 2 April, Walsall Libraries have revealed their most borrowed fiction titles from 2025, offering inspiration to residents looking for their next read.

The list highlights a mix of bestselling authors and well-loved favourites across both adult and children’s fiction, reflecting the reading habits of library users across the borough.

Top 5 Adult Fiction titles:

  1. In Too Deep – Lee Child & Andrew Child
  2. Strange Sally Diamond – Liz Nugent
  3. We Solve Murders – Richard Osman
  4. The Frozen People – Elly Griffiths
  5. The Waiting – Michael Connelly

Top 5 Children’s Fiction titles:

  1. For Whom the Ball Rolls – Dav Pilkey
  2. The World’s Worst Children – David Walliams
  3. Cat Kid Comic Club – Dav Pilkey
  4. Lord of the Fleas – Dav Pilkey
  5. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets – J.K. Rowling

All titles are available to borrow free of charge for Walsall Library members. 

Walsall is home to seven community libraries and a mobile and home library service, which delivers resources to vulnerable members of the community:

  • Aldridge Community Library
  • Bloxwich Community Library
  • Brownhills Community Library
  • Darlaston Community Library
  • Lichfield Street Hub (Central Library & Archives)
  • Streetly Community Library
  • Willenhall Community Library

Libraries provide free, safe and welcoming spaces for residents of all ages. Friendly staff support a wide range of enquiries, and Walsall Community Libraries work closely with local schools, Children’s Services, BookTrust, The Reading Agency and the National Literacy Trust and many more.

Walsall Library members can also access over 8,000 bestselling eAudiobooks, eBooks and a wide range of national magazines, daily or Sunday papers free of charge through the BorrowBox and PressReader apps. Those with Walsall Library memberships also have access to a number of free digital services.

For those who enjoy reading socially, Walsall Libraries host a range of regular reading groups and activities. Monthly reading groups are currently held at:

  • Aldridge - 2nd Wednesday of each month - 4.45pm – 5.45pm
  • Bloxwich - 3rd Thursday of each month – 11am– 12pm
  • Brownhills - Last Tuesday of each month - 2.15pm – 3.15pm
  • Lichfield Street Hub - 1st Wednesday of each month - 2.30pm – 3.30pm
  • Lichfield Street Hub - 1st Thursday of each month (Crime Books) - 11am – 12pm
  • Streetly - 1st Wednesday of each month – 11am– 12pm
  • Streetly - 3rd Tuesday of each month (Crime Books) – 11am – 12pm
  • Streetly - 2nd Wednesday of each month (Poetry) - 10.30am – 12pm
  • Willenhall – 2nd Thursday of each month – 4:30pm to 5.30pm
