Apply now for Walsall primary and secondary school places for September 2027

Published on

The school year may have only just begun, but parents and carers in Walsall can now apply for their child's primary or secondary school place for September 2027.

Classroom

Walsall Council is encouraging families to apply online and in advance of the closing dates. Primary school applications close on 15 January 2027, while secondary school applications close on 31 October 2026.

  • Children born between 1 September 2022 and 31 August 2023 can now apply for a reception class place starting in September 2027.

  • Children born between 1 September 2015 and 31 August 2016 can now apply for a Year 7 secondary school place starting in September 2027.

“ Every child deserves the best possible start to the next stage of their education. Whether your child is beginning primary school or moving on to secondary school, we want parents and carers to feel confident and supported throughout the admissions process.

We have a range of support available, including drop-in sessions across the borough, where parents and carers can receive help from our admissions team to complete their online application.

Councillor Lisa Jones, Portfolio Holder for Children, Education and Skills
Walsall Council

School application guidance

  • Parents and carers can apply for school places online and should include all available preferences to maximise their chances of securing a place at one of their preferred schools. Up to three preferences can be selected for primary applications and up to five preferences for secondary applications.
  • Families living outside Walsall should apply through their home local authority, even if they are applying for a Walsall school.
  • For primary school applications, the closing date is 15 January 2027. School offers will be made on 16 April 2027.
  • For secondary school applications, the closing date is 31 October 2026. School offers will be made on 1 March 2027.
  • Late applications, particularly for secondary schools, may reduce the chance of securing a place at a preferred school.
  • Parents should note that having a nursery place at a school does not automatically guarantee a reception place. A separate primary school application must still be submitted.
