95 littering fines paid in a month as enforcement action continues

Ninety-five littering fines have been paid in Walsall following enforcement action between 28 July and 25 August, with 158 further Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) issued during the same period.
The latest figures form part of the council's ongoing enforcement work to tackle littering and keep streets and public spaces clean.
Anyone issued with an FPN must pay within 14 days. Failure to pay, following a reminder, may result in the case being progressed through the courts.
The enforcement work is supported by 87 CCTV cameras across the borough, following the deployment of 16 additional cameras in recent months.
In addition to issuing FPNs, enforcement officers recently engaged with some of Walsall’s passionate litter pickers in Pelsall, discussing issues faced locally and exploring hotspots known to the group. As a result of this engagement, CCTV has been installed at a new location, tapping into the expertise which groups have of their local areas.
“ Littering is completely unacceptable and we will continue to take enforcement action against those who choose to drop rubbish in our communities.
"I want to recognise the fantastic work of the volunteer litter pickers who regularly give up their time to help keep their communities clean. Our officers have been out in Pelsall, listening to the issues they see and visiting local hotspots they have identified. Their knowledge of the area is incredibly valuable and, following this engagement, CCTV has now been installed at a new location.
"Working with these groups gives us another way to understand where problems are happening and target our enforcement activity where it is needed most. “
Residents can dispose of waste legally at the borough's Household Waste Recycling Centres at Fryers Road, Bloxwich, and Middlemore Lane, Aldridge, which accept general waste, recycling and bulky items.
A bulky waste collection service is also available for households unable to transport larger items. Families requiring additional bin capacity due to growing households or medical needs can apply for a larger bin through the council's website.
