Air quality

Poor air quality affects our health, as well as our environment and economy. The Environment Act 1995 requires us to regularly assess air quality and work towards the national objectives. If we are not likely to achieve objectives, we must declare an Air Quality Management Area (AQMA).

Arrange an air quality assessment

We sometimes require assessments into the impact on air quality for:

  • new developments
  • construction schemes
  • engineering projects
  • transport initiatives

If you have been asked to conduct or arrange an air quality assessment, use the guidance below.
