Climate and energy support for schools

We work with our partner, Achieve Your Goals CIC (AYG), to help schools teach children about climate change.

The programme helps pupils, schools and families learn how to look after the planet. It focuses on sustainability, saving energy and understanding climate change.

We also help schools meet the Department for Education requirement to:

  • create a Climate Action Plan
  • appoint a sustainability lead

What the programme includes

Learning and teaching support

  • Lessons on climate change, energy, renewable energy and sustainability
  • Assembly slides for schools to use
  • A newsletter sent every half term

Activities for pupils

  • Setting up a ‘green’ business
  • Building small wind turbines
  • Learning about jobs in construction and green industries

Pupil voice and careers

  • School eco‑warriors record a podcast to share their views on climate change
  • Green careers sessions about jobs such as:
    • water scientist
    • ecologist
    • forester

Support for families and schools

We also:

  • give families free energy advice, working with trusted energy specialists
  • provide schools with energy monitoring systems to:
    • track energy use
    • support classroom learning
    • help cut energy use and carbon emissions

This work helps children and communities act and build a greener future.

How your school can get involved

Schools in Walsall can join the programme for free. We can usually work with two schools per year on the programme.

To get involved, schools can:

  • talk to the headteacher or senior leadership team
  • nominate a sustainability lead within the school
  • contact us

Once your school signs up, we will:

  • explain what support is available
  • help you plan activities and learning
  • support your school to develop a Climate Action Plan

The programme is flexible and can be tailored to fit each school’s needs.
