Apprenticeship Levy Transfer Scheme
If you are considering recruiting an apprentice, or upskilling existing employees, you may be able to get funding to cover the apprenticeship training costs through our Apprenticeship Levy Transfer Scheme. We can transfer up to 50% of our unused apprenticeship funding to eligible organisations in Walsall. The funding helps pay for apprenticeship training and end-point assessments.
The scheme aims to:
- create new apprenticeship opportunities
- support local businesses and organisations
- address local skills shortages
- develop existing staff through apprenticeship training
- contribute to economic growth in Walsall
Who can apply
Your organisation should:
- be registered or trading in Walsall Borough
- require funding for future apprenticeship starts
- have or be willing to create a Digital Apprenticeship Service (DAS) account
- use an approved apprenticeship standard
- explain how the apprenticeship will benefit Walsall residents or businesses
Priority may be given to applications that:
- support young people aged 16 to 24
- create new jobs
- support under-represented groups
- address skills shortages
- promote career progression opportunities
- deliver positive outcomes for Walsall residents
How levy transfer funding can be used
Funding can be used for:
- apprenticeship training costs
- End Point Assessment (EPA) costs
- newly recruited apprentices
- existing staff undertaking apprenticeship training
Funding cannot be used for:
- salaries
- equipment
- travel expenses
- membership fees
- apprenticeships that have already started
- End Point Assessment resit costs
How to apply
Before you apply please ensure that:
- you understand your responsibilities in the Apprenticeship Funding Rules (opens in new tab)
- your apprentice has not already started their apprenticeship training
- you can employ the apprentice for the required duration of the apprenticeship

Return the expression of interest form to us by email.
We'll review your eligibility before inviting a full application.
If your organisation is eligible, we’ll send you a Levy Transfer request form to complete.
You'll need to provide:
- apprenticeship details
- training provider information
- apprenticeship training costs
- benefits to Walsall residents and businesses
We’ll assess applications using the criteria below:
- whether your organisation meets the eligibility criteria
- how the apprenticeship will benefit Walsall residents or businesses
- how it helps address local skills shortages
If your application is successful you'll:
- receive an email confirmation of funding offer
- receive a connection request through Apprenticeship Service Account
- begin receiving monthly levy transfer payments into your Apprenticeship Service Account that pay apprenticeship training provider costs
