Legal framework

The proposed fees are put forward under the requirements of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976. This Act allows local authorities to set and review fees for vehicle and operator licences, ensuring they are reasonable and reflect the cost of administration, monitoring, and enforcement.

Section 70 of the Act specifies the process for public consultation, including the requirement to publish proposed changes and consider any objections received before finalising the fees.

Next steps

Following the consultation period, we will review all submissions. All feedback will be considered in accordance with the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976 before we make any final decisions.

We will then publish and implement the finalised fee structure as per statutory requirements.
